Service
Jeremy VanMeter ran for and won election
to the Berne Union Local School District board
of education in 2007.
ü
VanMeter served as
board representative on the district leadership
team for the Ohio Improvement Process, a
process using data and state standards to raise
the bar for student achievement. Through the
Ohio Improvement Process, Berne Union moved
from a designation of Effective
to Excellent rated schools in 2009 and
2010.
ü
As a board member,
VanMeter was appointed legislative liaison for
the board. In this capacity, Jeremy kept board
members apprised of education bills and
communicated with state legislators on the
local impact of proposed bills. He successfully
convened an education roundtable for school
superintendents, treasurers, and board members
across Fairfield County to talk about how to
improve the quality of education for students.
Jeremy VanMeter continued to represent
local interests by challenging the governing
board of the Fairfield County Educational
Service Center. In 2009, Jeremy ran and was
elected to the Fairfield County Educational
Service Center governing board.
ü
VanMeter worked
with fellow board members to hire a new county
superintendent to oversee operations of the ESC
and move county programs in a new direction.
The change in county educational leadership was
the first in nearly two decades.
ü
VanMeter met with
national education policy makers and elected
officials from across the U.S. in Washington
D.C. to discuss the opportunity gaps in public
education and the need for reform of “No Child
Left Behind.”
ü
He was the first
school board member in Fairfield County to
announce opposition to anti-worker Senate Bill
5 and was one of thousands of people unjustly
locked out of the Ohio Statehouse during
peaceful and democratic protests against the
bill.
ü
Having recently
been appointed Board President, VanMeter works
closely with fellow board members, local school
district superintendents, county staff members,
and parents to push for accountability,
transparency, and improvement in the delivery
of education services. The Fairfield County ESC
recently won the State of Ohio Auditor’s award
for excellent record keeping and financial
reporting.
As demonstrated by his service and
character, Jeremy VanMeter knows the difference
between what is right and what is wrong. He
understands the importance of building a
brighter economic future for all Ohioans
through investment in education. He will take
these values given to him by his family and his
community to the Ohio House of Representatives,
fighting for hardworking families in the
78th district.
