Poll-Workers!
Each polling precinct is supposed to have 4 "judges" - two Democrats, and two Republicans. One of these four people is the "presiding judge", which means they have additional responsibilities. The presiding judge is chosen by their party; if the precinct voted for the democratic candidate in the most recent governor's race, then that precinct's presiding judge is a democrat, and vice versa.

Working the polls is a great way to meet your neighbors while participating in our democratically-elected government at the most fundamental level.
